The Effect of Rubber Training on Gyaku-Tsuki Punching Speed in Karate Athletes

Background. Speed is one aspect of the physical category. This reflects the muscle's capability to act quickly by experiencing cycles of contraction and relaxation that lead to maximum frequency. In the context of karate, having good speed in throwing punches is crucial because increasing punching speed is a key factor in achieving points or scores. This also applies to the gyaku tsuki chudan punch technique.
Method. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of using rubber training on gyaku-tsuki punch speed among karate practitioners. The research method used is descriptive. The sampling approach chosen was total sampling with a population of karate athletes, where the number of samples taken was 12 people. The instrument used to collect data was the Gyaku-tsuki punch speed test. The results of this study indicate a significant impact of rubber training on gyaku-tsuki attack speed among athletes.
Result. This finding is supported by the calculation of the t-table value from rubber training which indicates the gyaku-tsuki punch speed is 7.05. Comparisons were made to the t-table values obtained at the significance level α = 0.05 with 12-3 degrees of freedom (df = 9), which had a value of 1.83. This shows that the calculated t value of 7.05 exceeds the t table value of 1.83.
Conclusion. Therefore, the conclusion of the research is that rubber training has a significant impact on the speed of gyaku-tsuki punches in athletes.
