About the Journal

International Martial Arts and Culture Journal is an international, peer-reviewed journal published biannually by the Center for Pencak Silat Research, Padang State University, Indonesia, in collaboration with national and international martial arts institutions. The journal publishes high-quality scholarly works in English and operates under a full open-access policy, providing immediate and permanent online access to all articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license.

The journal focuses on interdisciplinary research that examines martial arts as integrated practices of sport, culture, and humanity. It welcomes original research articles, critical reviews, and scholarly discussions addressing physical culture, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, psychology, pedagogy, organizational studies, and cultural tourism, with particular emphasis on pencak silat and other martial arts traditions.

By adopting a holistic and systematic scientific approach, the journal promotes dialogue between physical education, humanistic inquiry, Eastern traditions, and contemporary sport science. It also explores institutional governance, leadership, and prominent figures in martial arts, as well as the role of martial arts in cultural exchange and sustainable tourism.

The Editorial Board and Scientific Council consist of internationally recognized scholars from multidisciplinary backgrounds, including editors and members of global scientific organizations. All published content is freely accessible for non-commercial use through the journal’s official website.
